Title of Work: “Moons in Splendour”

Artist Statement:
On the evening of the full moon in late May I took thirty four paintings of the moon I had made (painted on both sides of seventeen sheets of handmade paper) and installed them inside a hedge in Penstave Copse, South Brent. They are framed with fallen branches taken from the hedge. Over the following six weeks I visited them every day and took photographs and video footage at all times of the day and in all weathers. Over that time I amassed over 30 hours of footage and the film ‘Moons in Splendour’ is the edited result of my time observing the paintings in their environment. I recorded the sounds of the wood with my camera and the soundtrack is taken from those recordings with added synth by my brother David Rothon.
